Cannonballs are weapons of war.
For the exhibit “Episodes of Violence” I cast the cannonballs in the central courtyard of the Castle of Otranto using traditional Italian cartapesta technique.
The work was realized by impressing layers of particular paper upon the surface of the cannonballs, then leaving the wet paper to dry in sunlight. The intention is to embrace not only the texture of the cannonball but also to capture the essence of the weapon, the energy embedded within the material, and to transfer that energy to my sculptures. I then paint the cannonball sculptures, which become props for the performance
