A FEW SUMMERS  ago I loaded up my buckets into the back of my husband’s pickup: plus plaster, water, an enclosing frame, miscellaneous stirrers, brushes and sponges. Already I’d gotten permission from the City of Cambridge to do the project. What i had noticed over the years, as I walked from my house to Harvard Square–cutting through the University’s Science Center– was mesmerizing patterns on the sidewalks in front of the University’s  Science Center as well as  the Engineering and Chemistry buildings.

In addition, I had heard of the standoff between the City of Cambridge and Harvard: who would pay for the sidewalk repairs?

I thought I knew what the sidewalk prints would end up being–textured paintings–…..but I was mistaken. They became lights.  In the next few blog posts, I’ll walk through the process.

Here are images of the casting.  Early morning. Sunday.  Few people out.
